Our History

1951

Sanskrit Academy founded by scholars with a grant from the Government of Karnataka.

1965

Established the Manuscript Conservation Wing, digitising over 10,000 palm-leaf manuscripts.

1978

Launched the Annual Sanskrit Research Journal, now a globally recognised publication.

1995

Opened the Digital Library with over 50,000 scanned manuscript pages accessible online.

2008

Inaugurated the International Sanskrit Conference, now held every two years.

2020

Launched online Sanskrit courses, reaching over 5,000 students across 40 countries.

2025

Celebrated 75 years of uninterrupted scholarship with publication of 2,500th title.
